I transferred to Fremd in 1972 (Junior year), and the culture shock of going from an all-girl Catholic school in the city of Chicago to a co-ed public school in the suburbs was really something; but it was an amazing experience that I’ll always cherish. I made some wonderful lifelong friends in my 2 years at Fremd, and also got to know a good portion of our class after graduation, working on the reunion committees. In recent years through Facebook, I’ve gotten to know and keep in touch with even more of you.

Life has had its ups and downs since our years at Fremd, but looking back, I’m grateful for all of my experiences. In 1981, I married Terry Schultz (Fremd class of ’75), and we have 2 wonderful sons, Shaun and Rob. Although we divorced in 1998, we remain close friends and always celebrate the holidays and family birthdays together. I got my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees while working full-time and having toddlers. And I worked for United Airlines for the majority of my career, so I was able to travel the world.

Toward the end of 2016, I reconnected with a truly wonderful man, Gordon Stark (Fremd Class of 73), who also relocated to Palatine in the summer of 1972. We've basically known each other for 47 years, so we were able to pick up where we left off all those years ago. Just after midnight this year at a New Year's Eve party, Gordon surprise me with an engagement ring, and we're now planning our wedding.

Gordon has children in Atlanta and Denver, and my son Shaun lives in Dallas, so although we’re still working, we do a lot of traveling to visit our families. We also have a beautiful beach house on St. George Island, FL that we get down to several times a year.

2020 will be a very exciting year for us. In addition to planning our own wedding, my younger son Rob plans to marry his love Emily in September. And, if that weren’t enough, my oldest son Shaun and his wife Mandy will be giving me my first grandchild in January.

In 2012, I launched a children's book series called Kristie's Excellent Adventures, originally based on a true story. The first 3 books in the series (Laundry Day, A Visit to the Fridge and The Deep Blue Sea) are available on Amazon.com, and the 4th book (The Big Bubble) should be available early next year on Amazon.

Although my Mom passed away in 2005, I'm blessed because my 92 year old Dad still lives in the house we moved into in Whytecliff in 1972 (5 minutes from me), and my siblings all live in the surrounding suburbs, so we’re able to get together often.

Life has been good, and every year, I realize more and more how important our relationships are. At the end of our lives, how much money we made or how many things we collected won’t matter; it will be the relationships we cultivated and cherish that truly will matter. That's why I am really looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it to our 45th Reunion next month. Let's keep those wonderful relationships going!

School Story:

As I mentioned above, I moved to Palatine in my Junior year, so although my time at Fremd was short, I was lucky enough to create friendships that have lasted a lifetime. I think the alumni of the Class of 74, more than most other classes, have forged and cherished lifelong friendships. Our thanks to Tom and Sue Bullen who work so hard to make sure that we're able to continue to cultivate and enrich those friendships through our reunions.

I am really looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it to our 45th Reunion. It will be a wonderful chance to reconnect with old friends and share wonderful memories of our time together.

Hey everyone!

The Reunion committee has collected some really great photos from our high school years and past reunions, but we need more! We've always featured these pictures on a repeating loop at our reunions, and we'd love to add more people, groups, events and memories to this collection.

As you're cleaning out, packing to move, downsizing, or just looking through old photo albums, if you run across some fun photos of high school dances, sporting events, clubs, trips, friends, get-togethers, etc., and / or pictures from our past reunions, please email them to the committee at Fremd74@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing them.

Thanks a bunch!

The Class of ’75 suffered a big loss this weekend when Richard Sharpe passed suddenly. Richard was a larger-than-life guy and such a presence everywhere he went. Although Richard and his wife Christi lived in Phoenix, he made time to visit his large group of high school friends in Chicago frequently – as recently as last month – leaving everyone in stitches with hilarious memories of his years at Fremd.

Richard’s untimely passing, along with the passing of so many of our dear classmates and loved ones, just serves to remind us how precious our time, our relationships and our memories are.

As J.J, Watt said, "What I remember most about high school are the memories I created with my fiends;” and so many of us, from the Class of ’74, are looking forward to sharing memories of our time at Fremd at our 45th Reunion on Saturday, October 19. We hope you’ll be able to join us for a wonderful evening of great food, classic music, dancing, laughter, friendship and memories.
